Preparing for a photoshoot!

  • If you plan on having your horse clipped or braided, do these in advance to your photo session.
  • if weather permits, bath your horse the day before or at least 5 hours before the photo session. Scrub those white spots! Treat this photo session as a show.
  • We suggest coating your horses hooves in hoof oil (or even olive oil) for a nice polished look. Its best to do this right before the session and tie your horse to dry.
  • Groom, groom, groom and use lots of elbow grease! If it's winter we suggest hot clothing on top of grooming if you cannot bathe.
  • Lots of fly spray if it's fly season!
  • All bridles, halters, saddles, etc that you intend to use for the session should be dirt free, cleaned and oiled appropriately to present the best look.
  • Depending on your horse and the type of images we're going to shoot, you may need to consider these two different approaches. If you have a very laid back or older horse, it may be best to let them have some rest time before the session. If you have an active show horse or fidgety baby, it may be beneficial to lunge or ride prior to your photo session! Remember to not wear your horse out completely and try to prevent sweating. We want to capture your horses true personality and expressions!
  • if your horses feeding time is around the time or the session, we suggest feeding earlier or feeding a portion of their grain prior to the session. A distracted horse at feeding time can present some challenges.
  • We suggest baby oil in very small amounts to the horses ears, nose, and around the eyes. Also, lots of show sheen all over! Apply this at the beginning of the photo session, I can help to make sure it's done with a light hand and just in time for photos.
  • *for black background shoots* Before your shoot, check over the aisle way and removed any clutter or debris, this is for safety and aesthetic reasons.
  • You can message me before your shoot for help with an outfit!

*due to covid*

  • I will not be able to show pictures from the shoot in person (because we won't be able to stay 2 meters apart)
  • Everyone is required to wear masks and stay 6ft apart at all times *masks on human model will be depending on the session*
  • My assistant or myself will not be able to handle or position your horse as we are trying our hardest to be contactless

Thank you for your understanding at this time!
